Sliding Into Second by Ella Jade

Genre: Erotic Contemporary Romance

The Kingston Heat Series, Book 2

Jilted once before, now it's her turn to level the playing field.

Hotshot sports reporter Sage Millan has been busy making a name for herself in the male dominated world of baseball. She's just landed her dream job, and her first assignment is covering the newly crowned World Series champions, The Kingston Crushers. This is the opportunity of a lifetime. The only problem…her ex-boyfriend, and the only man she's ever loved, is the team's second baseman. Things ended badly between them, and she's not sure she can put those demons to rest.

Professional baseball player Nicolas Cordova is having the time of his life. His team has just won the World Series, and with the victory comes more fame, women, and exposure than he ever could have imagined. But things are about to change for the sexy, charismatic athlete. He never expected his ex-girlfriend to walk back into his life, much less the locker room.

These days Sage is smarter, more mature, and doesn't plan on being played a second time. Her appearance stirs old memories for Nic. She's the one he let get away in the name of his career. He vows he can be the man she needs this time around. Will that be enough to mend her broken heart?

Content Warning: contains explicit sex and adult content

"I want to know the woman you are today. I want another shot at this."

"No," Sage whispered.

"If you remember anything about me, I have a hard time with that word." Nic tipped her chin up, his gaze focusing on her lips. "I am going to kiss you. Right here and right now."

Her knees buckled as a cool tremor swept through her. She wanted to say no. It was the only logical word to mutter, but her heart didn't want her to say it. Her body wasn't on board with turning him down either. The warmth that built in her stomach had moved lower, and now all she could think about was his lips on hers.

"It doesn't sound like you're asking," she breathed out.

"I'm not."

Before she could say anything else, his mouth was on hers, eager, but slow and soft. His stubble grazed along her chin as he tilted his head and deepened the kiss. The sound throughout the crowded lobby seemed to fade into the background, and soon all she could hear was her heart pumping loud between her ears. Why did he have to be such a freakin' good kisser?

After the incredibly long connection, he pulled away, but not before stopping to kiss the bottom corner of her mouth like he used to.

"I've waited a long time to do that," he said. "It was worth every lonely minute."

"I… Nic…" She'd always had the gift of words. It was what she did for a living, but in that moment, all of her thoughts were jumbled and senseless.

"It's okay." He grinned as he stroked her cheek. "Let's get something to eat and maybe figure this out. Whatever this is."

"No." She ran her hands along his strong chest, resting them on his shoulders.

"Don't over analyze this, baby." He glanced down at her hands on his body. "Let's just go with it."

"That's what I'm trying to tell you." She took a breath and continued before she lost her nerve. "Take me upstairs to your room. I know how we can figure this out."

"What are you asking?" He placed his hand on the small of her back, drawing her closer to him. "You need to be real clear."

"I want to go upstairs with you."

"That's not why I kissed you."

"Isn't it?" She smirked. "We're adults now, Nicky. Let's settle this like adults."

"I'm not looking to settle anything. That usually means it's over, and we're nowhere near over." He motioned for Joe. "I'll take care of the bar tab and then we'll get dinner."

"No." She draped her arms around his neck, intoxicated by the idea of being so close to him again. He may be older now, and may have lost those boyish looks, but the man he had become suited him and drove her wild with need.

"What did I tell you about that word?"

"I can guarantee I won't be using it once we're in your bedroom." She ran her tongue along her top lip. "I'm going to the ladies room. When I come out, if you're not by the elevators waiting for me, I'll know that kiss was nothing more than the heat of the moment and we can go on with our lives."

"Sage?"

"Shh." She pressed her lips to his. "Now who's over analyzing?" She reached for her purse and coat hanging on the back of the stool. "I'll see you in a few minutes." I hope.

Meet Me in the Garden by Rosa Sophia

Genre: Romance

Memories of another life, and the garden where it all began, keep Amalie Jarvis awake at night.

A columnist for a popular magazine, she attends a function in Palm Beach at the famous Breakers Hotel, only to cross paths with graphic designer Ian Gardner—who appears to hold the key to her visions. The more time they spend together, the more Amalie realizes how much she wants to be with him. And how much she fears admitting that she loves him.

Ian can’t remember the past, but he is drawn to Amalie with an intense passion he’s never felt before.

Many moons ago, they met in a garden. Different names, different faces—but their souls were still the same. Unable to resist her, Ian falls deeply in love. He remains by her side as she battles severe facial pain, not knowing what it is or if it could kill her. Frightened for her, he swears his adoration without ever speaking the words.

But their devotion has dangers, and they’re about to be faced by hazards neither of them could have foreseen…

“Amalie, is it getting worse?” Jean repeated, tucking her clipboard against her chest.

“Yes.”

“I’ll hurry the doctor along then. I’ll be right back.”

The minutes passed as though they were hours. Finally, the doctor arrived and introduced himself. He was a middle-aged man with glasses and graying hair, and he greeted Amalie with a warm smile.

“Jean says you’re not feeling too well, so we’ll hurry this along as best we can.”

Remembering previous episodes, Amalie looked him squarely in the eye and croaked, “It’s getting worse. If it gets really bad, I might have a panic attack.” Ian didn’t know that about her, but she’d had them when she was younger. When the pain hit in high school, she’d been unable to breathe, and she’d sobbed and gasped, certain she was dying, until the worst of the pain had passed.

The doctor nodded as though he’d heard this before. “Okay. We’ll go as quick as we can.”

Each image taken of the inside of her mouth was more awkward than the last. Amalie had to open her mouth wide, which made the shocks lancing through her face worsen, and Jean inserted some kind of device into her mouth. The shape of it made her very uncomfortable. When it was in place, she had to bite down on it, after which Jean would press a button and the picture would be taken. A series of images appeared on a screen to the right, Amalie’s teeth from various angles. Although she was not a dentist, she saw nothing odd about them.

She wasn’t sure how much time had passed or how many x-rays they’d taken before she began to fall apart. They’d turned off the television at her request, but the light in the room was so blaring it was playing havoc on her senses.

As Jean prepared the device again, Amalie cringed when another pain in her face made her stomach churn. She was clutching the arms of the chair, digging her nails in, her chest heaving. She could feel her eyes begin to water. She breathed out her mouth; breathing through her nose only caused more pain.

She glanced up and saw Jean set the tool down.

“How are you doing?”

Amalie forced words out between her quivering lips. “Not good. It’s bad, very bad.” Unable to handle it anymore, she groaned and curled up, rocking to the side.

This was when she drifted away. She was no longer herself. Darkness fell over her, and she knew that anything she said or did, or how she reacted, was not anything Amalie would have done. Amalie was no longer there. Only the pain presided over her body. It was the only real thing inside her. She became the pain.

Somewhere out of the darkness, Jean asked her if she wanted the light turned off. Amalie heard her own voice emerge as a weak mumble, and within seconds the light was out. A moment later, she squinted through the shadows and saw a white lab coat. The voice of Doctor Horowitz encouraged her to go to the hospital, and asked if there was anyone they could call. She was in no condition to drive.

The pain slammed against her cheek, like a chisel being driven straight into her bone.

“Do you have any family here?”

The question was innocent enough, but as the stabbing continued from the inside, Amalie thought of her mother, then her father, then her distant relatives in Maine, and her cousins, aunts, and uncles scattered across the country. Somehow she managed to say no. The memories would fade later, but she did drag her cell phone out of her pocket and hand it to the doctor, telling him to call the one man who would help her, who had promised to be there for her whenever she needed him, the man who made her feel safe.

Ian Gardner.

Strong language. Sexual content. Intended for audiences 17 years and older.

He grinned with his infamous Maxwell smirk as he cupped my face.

I had barely caught my breath when his mouth was on me. I opened to him as his tongue dipped inside, twining with mine. He tasted like forever. I wiggled against his hardness, and he moaned. Abandoning my mouth, he trailed his lips along my jaw, my ear, and my neck. He licked over my racing pulse while the heat from his hands was scorching my back. His torment was too much, yet not enough. My clothes grew constrictive. I wanted to feel his bare skin against mine.

As if he sensed my need, he lifted my sweater over my head, throwing it to the floor. His eyes were seas of shimmering copper. The backs of his fingers ghosted up and over my abs to land on the clasp of my bra. For perhaps one second he hesitated before unsnapping it. When he did, I sucked in a breath, my nipples hardening. He removed one strap then the other before it fell behind me.

“Beautiful,” he breathed, as he traced the outline of my breasts, teasing, but never touching the sensitive peaks that ached for his magical fingers or even his mouth.

I pressed my hips into him, feeling his arousal. Desire swirled down my belly in a slow, sinuous slide.

He groaned, deep and sensual. “Baby, tell me what you want.”

My body tingled. My brain went blank. “You.” All I wanted to do right now was feel him and everything he had to offer.

His eyes widened with a savage intensity that frightened me, yet calmed me. He pressed a kiss to my breast, gliding his warm mouth over my nipple before sucking on it. I arched into him, rubbing against him. He moaned, giving my other breast the same attention.

I fisted my hands in his sweater, tugging it up. He eased back, raising his arms. I lifted his sweater and T-shirt over his head before tossing it aside. My gaze wandered over him, drinking in every muscled inch of him from the line of light brown hair that disappeared into his jeans, to the six-pack abs that sculpted his midsection, to the tattoos on his chest.

Pushing his fingers through my hair, he brushed his lips over mine. “Are you sure, Lace?” His voice was barely audible.

Mistaken Identity by T.C. Matson

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Ever held your breath as the elevator doors slide open unsure of who could be staring back at you? And what about walking to your car and finding a note? Ever wish it was from the man who catches your attention? Poor Samantha isn’t sure when to let loose of her breath. Her fresh start causes more problems than the nerves she feels on the first day of work. She soon falls prey to a love that transforms into evil, lies that become twisted, and threats that come to be promises. She’s oblivious that the elevator holds her love, her heart break and her strength.

I take a step to the side when the elevator chimes, stopping on the fifth floor. The doors open to the most gorgeous man I’ve ever laid eyes on. He’s a tall, dark brown haired angel wearing a perfectly tailored charcoal grey suit with a crisp white shirt and a grey striped tie with his hands in his pockets. His clean shaven, chiseled jawline shifts slightly when his lips curl into a sexy knowing smile, creating dimples that ignite an ache between my legs. My breath catches at the most mesmerizing set of azure blue eyes piercing into me. This man knows his eyes are capable of giving women multiple orgasms with just one look, and he’s not afraid to use them.

He steps in giving me a slight nod. “New here?” he asks, his voice silky.

I blink, realizing I’ve just been busted staring…at his mouth, his eyes, his drop dead gorgeous face. He probably thinks I’m a creep. Before I can answer, the smell of his woodsy mandarin cologne mixed with soap engulfs my body provoking succulent thoughts. It’s enticing and sexy, and I want it all over me and my sheets.

“Yes, sir,” I say on unsteady legs.

“Welcome to the company. I’m sure I’ll see you around.” He smirks as he exits the elevator, knowing damn good and well what he’s doing. The heat that spread throughout my body, I now feel on my cheeks.

I say nothing. I can’t. My poor brain can’t form words. My lungs hurt from the lack of oxygen, and my mouth is slack jawed. Dammit.

Content Warning: contains graphic language and explicit sex

"So what do you do for fun, Phoebe?" Jonathon asked while they waited for their food to cook.

"I don't know, read I guess. I don't have a lot of free time to spare." She hugged her knees to her chest, staring at the fire.

"You're obviously into this survivalist thing, how long have you done it?"

The getting-to-know-you session made her uncomfortable, and a part of her wanted to scream at him. How do you not remember me? You took my virginity and got me pregnant all in the same night! She bit her tongue to stem the coming storm of words until she felt some control.

"A long time," she finally answered. Shortly after dropping out of college and moving across the country where I could raise my daughter in peace.

She took a stick and rolled several of the crabs off the stone, letting them cool in the sand before collecting them in her palm. Jonathon followed suit as she bit into one. Though small, and gritty, it didn't taste half-bad. Perhaps tomorrow she'd search for sea urchins, and weave a lobster trap. With the few needed calories in her belly, Phoebe felt a bit better about Paradise. Even if she had to share it with the last man on the planet she'd expected.

As the sun set before them, and the sky turned from blue to soft reds and orange, Jonathon tried to draw her into conversation again.

"Tell me about your life, angel," he said.

She frowned at the pet name. He'd used it before—long, long ago.

"Not much to tell," she said. "Work, my daughter, more work."

"You have a daughter? What's her name?"

She fidgeted, not knowing quite what to do with her hands, so she drew circles in the sand with a fingertip. "Sarah. She's eleven."

"I have an adorable niece that age." Jonathon stretched his long legs before him and rested back on his hands. Phoebe noticed welts left by sand flea bites on the tops of his feet.

Sarah has a cousin she'll never know. Sadness flowed into her heart, as did the sense of helplessness she'd carried for so long. There he was, only two feet away, and she still couldn't break the silence. Sarah was too important to risk on a stranger's whims. If Jonathon did show interest, then his interest may quickly wane, leaving Sarah with emotional scars.

"It'll be rather cozy in our hut tonight, don't you think?" Jonathon asked in a low timbre, interrupting her thoughts. His eyes rested on her, catching the light of the flickering campfire. Beyond him, the water blazed beneath the sun's last throes of life, setting fire to the crystalline blue. Staining it dark orange, blending ocean into sky.

A cool breeze washed over them, sending a rush of goose pimples over her skin. Or maybe it was the way Jonathon's deep voice rasped her nerve endings, the way his gaze seduced. Both held a masculine power that reached into the most feminine parts of her.

In that moment she realized how strong her weakness was when it came to Jonathon. Whatever magical control drew those supermodels to him, left her just as powerless. A whispered request from his sensual lips and she'd melt into him and beg for more. Her heart pounded in her chest as she stared into his eyes. His hand came up and his knuckles brushed her cheek, stroking back a loose strand of hair. She trembled with the touch, ached for more.

"Phoebe, angel…" His fingers trailed above her ear, and it took a moment to realize he'd turned off her camera. He slipped it over her head, before he reached up and did the same with his. "I'd rather it be only us right now."

No, no, no, I can't do this. She couldn't catch her breath as he scooted closer. The tips of his fingers traced over her cheek, light as butterfly wings, before his palm settled there. The warmth of it sent a shockwave of desire through her, and she sucked in a hard breath. "Please…" No.

Jonathon leaned in, his lips hovered over hers. "There's something about you, angel," he whispered. "Something I can't quite put my finger on."

Love Repeated by Nancy Corrigan

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Young lovers, Kyle and Ronnie, had the world ahead of them at seventeen. Stubbornness, misunderstanding and a mother’s influence forced them to forge their own paths. A decade later, neither can find love.

Ronnie always thought it was easier to move on than deal with the pain and hurt of past mistakes. She made plenty of them, but so did Kyle and her parents. Kyle knows the moment he touches Ronnie that he still loves her. He won’t repeat the past and let her leave him a second time.

It takes a tragedy and a secret to reunite them, but their passion returns in a rush along with regret and guilt. To have love, they’ll have to overcome their issues—before her mother’s sin takes Ronnie away, once and for all.

I love small towns and rural living. There’s just something enticing about the atmosphere that’s found in area where everybody knows everybody. Sure, there’s the disadvantage of never being able to escape your mistakes, but even in those cases, sometimes it’s a good thing. People won’t let you forget where you went wrong, so you’re less likely to make the same choices again. Unless of course, you just don’t care. In that case, you’ve given the townspeople a source of conversation that doesn’t involve the weather. J

For me, though, there’s a certain comfort in knowing someone is keeping tabs on me, even if it’s only for gossip. I remember a few years back, there was an elderly women who lived nearby who escaped a potentially life-threatening situation because the other neighbors on the block “kept an eye on things.” This lady always went to the grocery store on Tuesday mornings after her favorite talk show. One day, she didn’t. The clerk at the store noticed and called her. When she didn’t answer, another neighbor went to check on her and discovered she’d fallen. I don’t personally have a life or death example to share. It’s the little things I appreciate—making sure my kids got on the bus, shoveling my driveway when my husband isn’t home, and picking up my mail.

Another thing I love about small towns is the willingness to help each other. From fundraisers to the casseroles that are given when people are sick or grieving—it’s the sense of community that can’t be beat, which is just a natural extension of the nosiness, I suppose. People care. It’s simple and profound, and I’m grateful for it. So as I was plotting out Love Repeated, the introductory book in my Sander’s Valley series, it seemed natural to write about a small town.

When thinking about the dynamics of how small town living can affect a relationship, there’s dozens of possible ways to approach a love story. For the Sander’s Valley series, I chose four different scenarios for each of the Sander brothers—love that’s repeated, refocused, reevaluated and reawakened.

Kyle and Ronnie in Love Repeated get their second chance at an HEA because Kyle embraces that small-town notion of ‘keeping an eye on things.’ And sometimes when our noble behavior leads us into a situation, one thing leads to another…and well, love blossoms again.

She raised her gaze to his. The bruises on her face twisted his gut, but her hazel eyes mesmerized him, exactly as they had a lifetime ago. His words got stuck in his throat. Finally, she shook her head, breaking the spell she’d cast over him. “Ten minutes in town and I run into you. Talk about luck.”

“Good luck, I’d say.” He motioned toward the bruise on her cheek. “What happened?”

She folded her arms under her breasts and shifted her gaze to his chin. “Armed robbery.”

She lied. He could see it in her eyes. He stepped closer. “Don’t bother lying to me, Ronnie. I know you too well. What really happened?”

Her brows pinched. “I haven’t seen you in years, Kyle. You don’t know me anymore.”

He supposed she was right. He’d thought they’d spend their life together. She’d proved him wrong. Still, she drew him like no other woman ever had.

He brushed a finger over her bruised skin. “Come on, doll. Talk to me.”

She grinned. “I always loved that nickname, you know.”

He matched her smile, couldn’t help it. “And you’re changing the subject.”

“Armed robbery, like I said. I really don’t want to talk about it.” She snatched her purse from where it had fallen on the ground and pulled a hundred-dollar bill from her wallet. She held it out to him.

He glanced from it to her face. “If that’s for saving you, keep it. I don’t want your money. Never did.”

She rolled her eyes. “Please, Kyle. I didn’t come back to this shithole town to fight with you. I was wondering if you could go back into the bar and pay for my drink. I’d rather not go in there again.”

He worked his jaw and fought his irrational anger. It wasn’t her fault he’d reacted like a jerk, but he’d always hated the fact that she had more money. He took the cash and crumpled it in his hands. “Why did you?”

“I’d almost consider it if I thought we could lose him. Isn’t he one of the best trackers around?”

“Yes, but maybe he would get the message that we’d like to be alone.” Rain said as he put his arms around her leaning in to lightly move his lips across hers. Damn that felt heavenly. She moaned even though she tried to muffle it. His lips came back for more contact. This time he really kissed her not just with his lips but his tongue licked across her lips finding an opening. Other than writing, she loves reading, chocolate, fine sweet wine, and traveling among a large list of pursuits. Box Set: Project Terminal by Olivia Starke

Genre: Paranormal Romance

Can six people stop a deadly virus threatening all of humanity?

Legacy:

When Laura Swift is attacked by a glassy-eyed human reeking of death she's rescued by a tall, muscular stranger. But she hasn't come out unscathed, and when her hero sees the bite mark on her hand he levels a gun on her.

Damian Gonsalves has one job—to stop the plague threatening to sweep through the US. An incurable virus that turns those afflicted into ravenous undead. He's a super soldier, engineered to be stronger, faster, and deadlier, yet all of his training fails him once he lays eyes on the petite blonde he rescues in an alleyway. A woman who should've never survived beyond a few moments against an undead attack. But she has one more surprise in store for him, and he soon discovers that within her may be the last hope for humanity.

Devil's Virus:

Dr. Maxwell Straight is in a race against time to develop a cure for a virus she helped create. While Max hoped to use it as a way to speed healing in injured soldiers, her twin sister had other plans. Project Terminal was turned into a weapon of mass destruction, and Max has to trust the man who broke her heart to help her stop the unleashed horror.

Super soldier Adam 'Preacher' Reed saw what was coming in Project Terminal long before anyone else. When his warnings fell on deaf ears he turned away from the project, and Max, for good. But now the woman Preacher once loved needs his help, and he'll do anything to stop the spreading undead plague. What he doesn't count on are the feelings that resurface when he's with her. Can he keep Max alive long enough for her to develop the cure, or will his worst fears be realized—losing his heart to Max, and their lives to the project?

End Game:

Super soldiers Amelia St. James and Gabe Morris have been called in for their most important mission—to protect those trying to stop Project Terminal. While holding up in a tiny cabin in the Colorado Rockies with Max, Preacher, Laura, and Damian, Amelia does her best to remain focused even though Gabe is one huge distraction she could do without. He's irritating, chauvinistic, and basically everything an independent woman would hate in a man, all wrapped up in an appealing package. Not that she'd admit to any attraction on her part.

Gabe has been infatuated with Amelia since the two of them met years before. She's smart and headstrong, and he wants nothing more than to get past her defenses. His priorities are to the people he's sworn to protect, but with Amelia so close he finds it hard to concentrate.

Those behind Project Terminal have a nasty surprise in store. Will six people alone in the mountains be able to stop them?

Content Warning: contains graphic sex, strong language, violence, and lots of creepy undead

Legacy Excerpt:

Curled in the fetal position, Laura looked like a sick child, fragile and broken. Damian's throat constricted, even though it was ridiculous to have feelings for someone you didn't know. He was military, Army Infantry, for Christ's sake, he knew how to pull a trigger without regret.

Laura rolled onto her back, staring toward the ceiling with glassy eyes. Despite the tremulous hold she had on life, she was already dead.

He existed as a government killing machine—an automaton they'd designed. Nothing more. He'd given his humanity away to the project. He wasn't much better than the corpses he hunted.

"I'm so sorry this happened to you, baby. You were right, I deserved this, not you."

His vision blurred when he stared down the barrel, the silencer aimed squarely between her eyes, his heart beating a crazed rhythm in his chest. His finger squeezed ever so slightly on the trigger. Outside a mourning dove called to its mate, a haunting song echoing in the room. He recalled a story from his youth about how a dove would arrive to carry a person's soul to the afterlife. If he believed in anything but the here and now, in that moment he would've thought it true.

Laura's mouth gaped open, strangled noises escaping her throat, seizures taking her into death throes.

He lowered his arm and thumped the butt of his gun against his thigh, waiting for the monster to appear. When she became the undead, when she moved to attack him, he'd have the power to destroy her. She deserved one last try to get the best of him. Maybe it wasn't Laura anymore, but he'd honor the fighting spirit within her. She'd never get past him, but if she took a piece of him in the process he'd have an excuse to end the whole goddamned thing here, in this stinking house. If he ever got infected his duty would be to put a bullet in his own head.

Laura's body stilled, her eyelids drifting closed.

Any moment…

Her eyes popped wide open, her back arching. She sucked in a breath as if surfacing from deep waters. He turned his body sideways, leveling his gun in dead aim, waiting for the corpse to lunge.

"Damian?"

Devil's Virus Excerpt:

Reed growled, lifting her from her feet. She wrapped her legs around his waist and he sat her on a lab table. The cold metal top chilled her as he stepped back. His eyes burned a trail down her torso. He leaned in, bracing his hands on each side of her hips, trapping her between. He stared into her eyes.

"This is a serious complication, Max." The words sounded forced.

Max had to clear her throat. "It will definitely get in the way."

"We need to stop right now."

"Yes, we do." She hung suspended, both fearing he'd move in or back off. Neither option seemed satisfactory with the war going on between head, heart, and loins.

"Max, I—"

A huge crash reverberated through the room, shocking a scream from her lungs. Reed whirled toward the noise, bracing his feet wide. Raspy breathing sounded from down the hallway, and Max's heart thundered.

"What the hell is that?" she whispered.

Footfalls slapped down the hall, bare feet hitting the tile flooring. Max held her breath, unsure what to do while Reed dove for his rifle. The undead appeared in the doorway, the sad remains of a woman. Her mouth hung agape, foam dripping from her lips. Reed aimed, but it ducked down, disappearing behind the rows of tables.

"Damn it." Reed jumped on a table and shot Max a glance. "Stay where you are."

Max stood on the table, searching the murky corners. The thing's breathing echoed, making the woman impossible to pinpoint. Reed jumped tabletop to tabletop, keeping his rifle trained on the floor. It seemed the undead was more clever than Max realized, keeping just out of sight. She searched for a weapon, feeling defenseless and useless to provide assistance. Nothing handy presented itself beyond a few microscopes within reach. She focused on Reed who didn't look the least bit panicked. He moved silently without any wasted movement. He paused, and fired, the loud pop making her jump. She heard the scraping of nails on the tile and Reed shot again. All fell silent.

End Game Excerpt:
Amelia turned her face to the sky, closing her eyes as a chilled mountain breeze washed over her. It did little to temper the heated memory of Morris's mouth, his heavy body pressing her to the ground…

"Jesus, get it together, Amelia," she hissed, shaking herself loose of the memory's hold.

The night wore on and she watched the constellations slowly shift with the earth's rotation. Satellites passed between stars, and a few wispy clouds drifted over the crescent moon. Coyotes sang from time to time and a bull elk called out. A normal night in the mountains with no sign of a pending attack. Perhaps they were home free. Max could finish up her work, they could get the cure, and Amelia could return to her everyday life. Alone at home, working on lesson plans, and generally avoiding contact with the outside world. Psychologists would chastise her for avoiding other people, but her altered life didn't invite intimate friendships. Something she hadn't considered when allowing her genes to be manipulated by scientists.

She chose a direction and walked, not really paying attention to where it led, lost in thought about her lonely life.

"Amelia?"

The baritone voice brought her up short, and she spun toward its source. A massive silhouette appeared from the trees.

"Morris? What are you doing in my sector?"

"Actually, you're well into mine."

Her cheeks warmed and she cleared her throat. "Sorry, I didn't realize."

She turned and headed back in the direction she'd come from but Morris caught up to her. He placed a hand on her shoulder. "Wait."

His touch sent a sizzle straight between her thighs and she sucked in a breath. She froze. He stepped forward, his chest just touching her back. Hot tingles erupted over her flesh.

"We're in the clear tonight." The warmth of his breath caressed the back of her neck, and she closed her eyes. "Stay."

She licked her lips and swallowed, trying to form a coherent thought. "Why?" she finally managed.

He let his hand slide to her upper arm, the other joined its mate on her opposite arm. He pressed forward and her eyelids popped open at the feel of his erection.

"Do I really need to answer that, darlin'?"

Olivia Starke calls the Ozarks home. One of the most beautiful areas in the country, she loves hiking trails with her dogs, kayaking on the numerous waterways, and enjoying southern Missouri’s fresh air and sunshine.

She’s also ‘Mom’ to four dogs, a growing number of kitties that show up at her door, and four VERY spoiled horses that do little to earn their keep. Not that she’d ever hold that against them.

She’s a HUGE fangirl of Doctor Who and to a lesser extent Supernatural, and has a pretty interesting love triangle (or square?) going on in her head between the Doctor and the Winchesters.

You and I Alone by Melissa Toppen

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Twenty-one year old Anna Blake has lived her life by one simple rule; never get attached. Having learned early on in life that nothing is guaranteed, she knows there is only one person she can truly rely on; herself.

But when she accepts a job as a dancer at one of the most secretive and exclusive clubs in the country, operating under the name Logan, she meets the one man who makes her question everything she thought she knew.

Bentley Reed is exactly the type of man women crave. Rich, powerful, and as sexy as they come; the definition of a playboy. A former soccer star turned business mogul, Bentley is used to getting what he wants, when he wants it.... but he has never met a girl like Logan before.

Their undeniable attraction is clear from their first encounter and neither can deny the sexual chemistry that flows between them. When Logan agrees to one night with Bentley, she has no idea that one night will alter her very existence.

Determined to walk away from a man insistent on not letting her go, Logan struggles to resist the temptation of what her body desires above all else.

What happens when two people who operate by the same rules, find themselves breaking them all for the chance to experience just one more night in each others arms?

As the song winds down, I turn my attention to the few people in front of me, for the first time acknowledging that there is even an audience in the room. My eyes quickly scan the faces and immediately land on a very attractive man leaning against the far wall, arms crossed in front of his chest.

I dart my gaze away from him the moment I realize that his eyes are locked firmly on my face. Something about the intensity of his stare makes it impossible not to look back in his direction again. The moment our eyes meet, a chill runs through my entire body. He's close enough that I can register the heat in his eyes and the beauty of his face, but far enough away that I doubt he can see the way my cheeks heat crimson under his glare.

He's tall, maybe six two, with a body that looks like he lives in the gym and a face that I swear belongs on every modeling magazine in the world. The man is perfection. My stomach twists tighter when he runs his hand through his messy short brown hair and lets out a slow exhale, his lips forming around his breath.

Mistaken Identity Three: The Perfect Woman for them is a MFM series, where desire doubles in pleasure. Take a wild ride on the edge of the imagination of AwardWinning, Bestselling Author, Sylvia Hubbard.

~Excerpt~

Prologue

The dream returned again.

She was where she wasn’t supposed to be, but the temptation was just too great for an eighteen year old girl bored to death and tired of being secluded in her home as if she was a prisoner.

Walking backwards, desperately trying not to cause her brother to notice her and tell their mother, she pressed her back in the bushes to slip through to the neighbor’s yard. Mr. Bradshaw kept a clean yard compared to her hoarding mother and she had just seen him drive away.

He was a very private man, but his extraordinary handsomeness had caught her eyes immediately when he had moved in two months ago. According to her brother, Mr. Bradshaw had just won the lottery and had gone from homelessness to housing in one short week. He’d bought the house next door and fixed it up. Something about being raised in this neighborhood when he was a boy and wanted to return to help out, but the beggars and strangers constantly knocking on his door made him into a recluse. When she had seen him, he was always in his backyard gardening.

Usually she watched him from her bedroom window in the back of the house. Always feeling like Rapunzel in her tower, she would spend hours just watching him documenting in her journal on Mr. Bradshaw and his curious tendencies to spend hours gardening.

He was tall; Six and a half feet and brawny.

I promise never to be attracted to a handsome man.

This was her proclamation since her father’s suicide. She never wanted to go through the torture her mother had suffered.

Yet, she couldn’t stop looking at Mr. Bradshaw. Albeit, older … (at least twenty years her elder), he was still a very handsome black man that she couldn’t stop looking at, desperately wanting to get a closer look at or find out some more information about.

So when the opportunity to climb in his home through an open window from her backyard presented itself, she took the initiative and made it happen.

Her skinny strong legs hoisted her up and inside. To her surprise, she didn’t knock anything down in her blindness, but she did end up bumping hard on her butt to the floor. The curtains were dark and only let a little light in, but she was able to move around the large pieces of furniture.

Her heart was racing, but curiosity was forcing her to keep going despite the fear racing through her veins.

The place was immaculate! Something out of a high end store catalogue almost untouched by humans.

Picking up a pillow on the couch, she pressed her nose to smell the essence of man. Her senses were aroused completely and she looked toward the stairs bathed in complete darkness, but her soul was drawn to venture up there.

Just as she put her foot on the stairs, she thought she saw in her peripheral vision a shadow coming from the way she came, but when she looked back down the hallway no one was there.

Had her brother followed her?

“Vick?” she called out softly.

The essence of fresh fallen rain surrounded her and she was positive the scent was coming from upstairs and she wanted to see where the strong scent was coming from.

Gripping the banister, she stepped upstairs into the darkness holding her hands out. Her heart rate seemed to go faster, but she was also drawn up the steps.

Just as she reached the top of the stairs, she was grabbed from behind and pressed against the wall. “Breaking and entering is a serious offense, little girl,” a hard voice hissed in her ear as a large body pressed against the back of her holding her in place.

~About the Author~

Detroit native, Sylvia Hubbard, a single mother of three, has worked tirelessly to promote and encourage emerging writers in Michigan. She independently published her first romance novel in 2000 and has continued to write in that genre, sometimes venturing into other sub-genres. Always urban and contemporary styled, her writing is enjoyed all over the world. She has published 8 paperbacks and over 30 e-books.

The same year she published, Ms Hubbard also created Motown Writers Network to fill the lack of education and networking for Michigan authors online and offline. By 2004, she was frustrated that all the literary conferences had moved too far away from the city and co-created The Essence of Motown Literary Jam Conference held only in the City of Detroit annually.

In addition to romance writing, Hubbard has been featured at various conferences and workshops all over the United States and Canada, where she has taught authors how to sell their books on the Internet. She also published Internet Marketing for Writers & Businesses as a resource for those unable to attend her workshops. In the upcoming year, she will be featured in several anthologies and plans to publish additional e-books.+
