Fool Me Once by Lacey Wolfe

Genre(s): Erotic Contemporary Romance

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice…

Drew is the last person Skylar wanted to see across from her at a local bar. A month ago he'd wined and dined her all weekend, leaving her feeling fully in love, but then she awoke alone in an empty hotel room and she hadn't heard from him since.

The weekend Drew spent with Skylar was phenomenal. There had never been anyone who made him feel as complete as she did. He shouldn't have disappeared, he should have called, but his feelings for her scared him, so he distanced himself. But when he saw her again, he knew he couldn't stay away any longer.

Skylar's determined not to give Drew another chance to hurt her, but he's just as determined to win her back. Although it won't be easy, he's up to the challenge, and he's willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish his goal.

Content Warning: Explicit Sex

~Excerpt~

What the hell was he doing there? Skylar was finished with her aerobics class. Grabbing a bottle of water and squirting some in her mouth, she checked her schedule. She had an hour before her next class. That meant she had an hour to figure out what he was doing at this gym.

Taking a towel, she wrapped it around her neck and wiped off the sweat. She headed out of the room, intent on finding him. He was easy to spot. He was in the cardio area, in the back row like a typical man, watching the ladies' butts jiggle as they worked out. Rolling her eyes, she started his way.

"Hi, Drew," she said sweetly.

He turned off his machine and grabbed his water bottle. She watched as he touched it to his full lips, taking in a long sip.

"If you're done, do you mind following me so we can talk a minute?" she asked. She knew a confrontation in the middle of the gym wouldn't look good for either her or the business.

"Sure."

Spinning around, she headed toward the staff only break room. Once there she stepped aside so he could come in. Luckily the place was empty. She shut the door and locked it.

"What are you doing here?" She placed her hands on her hips, trying to portray she was irritated by him, when all she really wanted was to feel his mouth on her again.

"Honestly, I had no idea you would be here."

"Yeah, and I should believe that. I haven't seen you in a month until last night and then today you show up at my work place."

He took a seat, clearly worn out from his run. "My company just switched gyms. I was having a tough morning, so I wanted to blow off some steam by taking a run."

"Sounds convenient," she retorted.

"Shit, I didn't know you would be here. It's a plus though." He eyed her belly, and she imagined his tongue there, licking her sweat off.

Silence filled the room. She didn't know whether to believe him or not. His explanation sounded logical, and she would hate to think fate worked this out. Fate was what she first thought brought him into her life to begin with. He seemed so perfect for her. When they made love, it was so hot it almost seemed like sparks were flying off their bodies. At least at the time she considered it making love. Now she knew it was just sex to him, nothing more.

"Come here." He motioned to her.

She snickered. "I don't think so."

"Please, I just want to feel you again."

"Ain't happening, buddy. You had your chance." She knew all she had to do was resist him; that was the hardest part.

He reached out, grabbed her arm, and pulled her to him. Yanking away from him, she took a step backward.

"Come on, Sky, I know you still have feelings for me."

"Oh, I definitely have feelings for you, just not the ones you're hoping for."

He chuckled. "You know, there's a thin line between love and hate."

"That line is pretty thick for me."

"I'm not so sure."

"I am." At least she hoped.

He stood, closing in on her. As he stepped toward her, she found herself once again flat against the wall. Shit, how does this keep happening? His mouth was too close for comfort. Her eyes drifted to it for just a second, knowing it was a mistake.

"This is not a good idea," she whispered. Desire stirred in her.

"I want to have you. I need to have you. You're all I have wanted."

Placing her hands on his toned chest, she pushed him back. "You're not doing this to me again, got it?"

"I will win you back," he said.

The Monster of Fame by Aimée Duffy

Genre(s): Contemporary Romance

Can the voice of an angel heal a tortured soul?

Annabelle MacIntosh enters a reality singing contest to save her family from their mounting debt. Miles Oliver, celebrity judge and the owner of the biggest record company in the UK, doesn't think she has what it takes. She sings like an angel, but when she performs all he can focus on is the terror in her eyes. It's a look he knows only too well. After the pressure of fame destroyed his wife, Miles swore he'd never let the same thing happen to anyone else. Driven by the guilt he's carried for years, Miles tries everything in his power to make sure Annabelle doesn't succeed, because he doesn't believe she'll survive it.

Annabelle needs that prize money, and she's determined to win it. As she fights to make it through each round of the contest, an attraction begins to develop between the two adversaries. The longer Annabelle remains in the competition, the deeper her attraction grows to the man who's trying to prevent her from reaching her goal. Can she convince Miles she's strong enough to fight the fame monster and win?

~Excerpt~

"We only have white. I hope that's okay," Annabelle said as she pulled a bottle from the fridge.

"White's fine," Miles assured her.

She reached for the top shelf of one of the cupboards, pulling out two glasses. A strip of pearly skin flashed at her waist as the top rose. His attention was drawn to the creamy concave of her stomach. His throat grew tight. Every part of him itched to be closer to her.

"Here we go." She carried the glasses over to the work surface he was leaning on. Her floral scent engulfed him.

"Annabelle," he whispered.

She looked up at him, surprise crossing her features until she looked harder. She must have seen the feral hunger in his expression, known that when his attention dropped to her plump lips it was because he wanted to taste them. When his gaze locked hers, a flush stained her cheeks, but this time it wasn't embarrassment.

Her cobalt gaze dropped to his lips and she moistened hers. Miles doubted anyone could resist this kind of desire. This feeling went beyond lust to an almost carnal level. It was all-consuming and he didn't have the strength to fight it.

Worse still, he didn't want to.

With his mind filled with nothing but her, he dipped his head down and brushed his mouth against pink lips as soft as rose petals. He intended to pull away after a second, but need sped through his veins with a force he couldn't control. Instead of pulling back, he cupped the nape of her neck with his hand and deepened the kiss.

Annabelle's mouth opened and he could taste her sweet breath on his tongue. She melted against him as she snaked her hands around his neck. Every part of his body that touched hers burned, and for the first time in six years, he was harder than granite.

He pulled back and feathered her jaw with kisses. She gasped when he reached her neck, igniting his desire to an inferno. "Annabelle," he groaned against the skin at her collarbone. She shivered all over.

He closed his eyes and nibbled her silky skin. Just as he was about to move back to her lips, Cassie's face—gray and lifeless—flashed to the forefront of his mind. His heated blood morphed into cold sludge in his veins.

Miles released her, instantaneously jumping back as if her touch burned him. Annabelle's skin flushed and her eyes were so dark they were no longer blue. Confusion colored her expression, and he couldn't speak. Guilt lay heavy in his gut, threatening to travel up his throat and choke him.

Closing his eyes, he pinched the bridge of his nose and took a deep breath. Cassie's face—cold and lifeless—was ingrained against his lids and the sick feeling came back, the same as it had when he'd found her dead in their apartment.

"Miles?"

He opened his eyes to Annabelle's crestfallen face. His was so numb he couldn't imagine what kind of expression he wore.

"I…can't," he choked out and started toward the door, pushing away her outstretched hand. Once outside he gulped in a breath of cool night air and jumped into his car. What had he been thinking? He was supposed to befriend the girl, not kiss her until he became drunk with desire.

Miles barked out a hard, humorless laugh. There really wasn't any point in bothering to kiss anyone at all, especially since he couldn't take things further with anyone, let alone with Annabelle. No matter how much he might want to.

Content Warning: contains graphic sex and strong language

Note: This book has been previously published.

~Excerpt~

As Trevor helped Lila up the porch steps, she wrapped her arms around his neck and brushed her lips against his jaw. She hadn't taken her hands off him since they'd left Tate's.

"I love to feel your stubble." She ran her fingers along his cheek. "It's sexy."

"Keys?" He held out his hand and waited as she dug through her bag. She had him rock hard and ready to go. The fact that she'd rested her hand on his thigh the whole ride home hadn't helped matters. It was the alcohol lowering her inhibitions, but that didn't make it any easier not to respond.

"Here they are." She dropped them into his hand. "Come inside with me."

He opened the door and led her into the foyer. As soon as he let her go, she stumbled forward. He caught her by the waist and pulled her against him. He couldn't take his eyes away from her lips.

"Do you want to kiss me?" Her warm breath caressed his mouth.

More than you know.

"Let me help you upstairs. I don't want you to fall down the steps." He scooped her up and carried her to the staircase. She was so light and dainty. She was still his perfect fit.

"You didn't answer my question." She placed soft, open-mouth kisses along his neck as he made his way to her old bedroom. He remembered sneaking up those steps many times, while her father slept down the hall. They still creaked, but this time he didn't have to worry about getting caught.

"Of course I want to kiss you." He pushed the door open with his shoulder and set her down by the bed.

She closed her eyes and leaned into him. He swiped the hair from her face, took her chin between his fingers, and placed a chaste kiss on her lips.

She opened one eye and peered at him, waiting for more. "That's it?" Disappointment flooded her beautiful features.

"For tonight." He tapped the tip of her nose with his finger. "I want you to remember when I kiss you."

"I'll remember." She wrapped her arms around his neck. "You're not easy to forget."

He pried her arms from his body. "Believe me, I want to, but not tonight."

"Why?"

"Because four hours ago you ran away from me," he said. "Something made you run. Tell me why." He may not have wanted to take advantage of her physically while she was intoxicated, but he didn't see why he couldn't let her drunken lips tell him what she was afraid of.

"I can't."

"You can't what?" He needed to know what she thought about the two of them.

"I'm tired now." She lifted her dress over her head and tossed it in the corner of the room. She stood before him in nothing but her white push-up bra and matching lace thong.

"Hell." He couldn't take his eyes off her toned, tanned body. He mindlessly licked his lips when he discovered her rose-colored nipples poking through the thin, silky material of her bra. Struggling with himself, he tried not to lower his gaze. He lost the battle as he greedily took in her scantily covered sex.

"Want to kiss me now?" She ran her fingers down her neck and over her breasts. "Want to touch me like this?" She moved her hand down her stomach and to the waistband of her panties.

He stepped closer to her and grabbed her wrist. He had to get her to stop or he'd lose all control.

"You want to do it?"

Falling Star by Laura DeLuca

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Drew DiPalma feels like he's living a lie. He's had it with his Hollywood persona, the high-maintenance women, and his sleazy agent. To escape the madness, he flees to a tourist town he'd often visited as a child. He never expected to find love on that little island. Then he stumbles upon Lainey alone on the swing set of a deserted beach.

After a dozen internet dating disasters, Lainey Riccardo has give up on romance--until she meets a West Coast hunk who has no trouble winning her heart. But Lainey only knows him as Drew, not the Oscar-nominated actor who's constantly scandalized in the tabloids.

When she learns the truth, will the small town Jersey girl be able to accept Drew's fast-paced life? Or will the truth drive her away forever?

~Excerpt~

It was at that exact moment of revelation that he saw her—the very embodiment of a free spirit. She’d sprung from nowhere, appearing just as a small patch of sea mist evaporated. He’d been walking for close to an hour, but he hadn’t seen the girl until he was practically on top of her, and she hadn’t noticed him either. Her eyes were closed and her long legs moved in agile motions as she flew back and forth. As he inched closer, Drew could also make out the slight creak creak of the rusty metal as the swing dived up and down.

“Hello?” Drew called tentatively as he took another step.

The woman didn’t hear him, probably due to the headphones hanging from her ears. She sang lightly under her breath as she swung, her sweet soprano almost swallowed by the crash of the waves breaking against the shore. Drew strained to make out her words—something about being free as a bird. He recognized the song as an old Nelly Furtado tune.

The lyrics fit the apparition perfectly. With her excessively long hair swooping behind her, the woman resembled a fairy or a sprite, even in her casual attire. Drew couldn’t stop staring at her, afraid she’d vanish back into the fog if he so much as blinked. He took another timid step in her direction. He hadn’t intended to disturb her, but she must’ve sensed his presence. All of a sudden, her eyes sprung open. She was so startled when she saw him standing a few feet away, she jerked forward, falling off the swing into a crumpled heap in the sand, legs and ear buds askew.

“Oh my God!” Drew exclaimed. “Are you all right?”

He rushed toward her, afraid she’d been hurt in the fall. He felt terrible that he’d frightened her, and he intended to play the chivalrous hero and help her to her feet. But before he could offer his hand, she leapt up of her own accord, and held out a set of jingling keys attached to a rather large can of pepper spray. Her finger was planted firmly on the nozzle.

Oh crap, Drew thought. So much for relaxing.

He could see the headlines now. Andy Palmer Goes Wild at the Jersey Shore. Gets Maced by Locals.

“Don’t move,” the girl ordered. She set her lips in a tight frown and her hand never wavered from her weapon. Her cheeks were flushed, either by the breeze or by her agitation. “I’m not afraid to use this.”

Content Warning: strong language, BDSM, and graphic sexual content, including m/f, f/f, and f/f/m sexual interaction

~Excerpt~

Lena James Lee waited excitedly in the bustling throng of women all the same age as her. They had been picked up by the coach from various stops throughout the country and most were rumpled, tired, and anxious. They all knew why they were there; their fates had been decided by the Archmatrias long before they had known anything of the manors or what it meant to be a collector.

Lena's mother had been so proud; she was the only one in her whole community who had been given the special invitation to attend training.

"Remember, Lena," her mother had advised quite forcefully, "it's not just your life that depends on this."

Lena had hopped on the coach without a care in the world. Now though, rumors swelled, starting with hushed whispers and giggling until all-out mayhem ensued.

"They make you wear nothing but a golden thong and you have to crawl around on the floor, parading yourself," Mae, a loud, stunningly beautiful girl shrieked.

"Are there really men? Do we get to see them?" Lena tentatively asked her in a rare quiet moment.

"Honey, we do more than see them." Mae cackled and swiped Lena playfully on the back of the head.

Lena felt her cheeks burn, it was clear that the other young women knew a lot more than she did.

"Are you really telling me you don't know what you signed up for?" Mae leaned in to Lena. "Has no one ever told you what that's for?" she whispered lavasciously into Lena's ear and slid a hand up the inside of her thigh.

The truth was, Lena had been brought up with great solemnity about becoming a collector. All the girls were vetted and tested from a very young age and if they showed promise in any of the four categories, their life was pretty much mapped out for them from that day. Lena had been pinpointed as a good candidate for a collector because of her striking looks, poise, and perfect proportions.

"Lena, my dear." Mae looked at her intently. "I think your mother followed the rules on abstinence and denial a little too carefully!"

"What do you mean?"

Mae rolled her eyes. "I've never met anyone so sexually unaware in all my life! You must be at least twenty-one, and I bet you've never even pleasured yourself, let alone anyone else."

Lena recalled the delight on her friends' faces when she'd brought out her prize-winning lemon meringue pies at tea parties.

"Yes, I have," she said defiantly, knowing in her heart that confectionary was not what Mae was talking about.

Super Love by Stephanie Beck

Genre(s): Fantasy/Superhero Romance

Reuniting to save the world.

Dinah just wanted to save the world. That didn't pan out, so she turned to social work, only to find herself miserable. When she's given the option of returning to the Justice Fraternity and her life as Dinah-Go, super fast superhero, she hesitates because going back means working side by side with her former lover Myles Steele, aka Man of Wonder.

To save their city from gargoyles, Man of Wonder needs Dinah-Go back in fighting shape. But Myles wants more than just his fighting partner at his side, he wants the lover and friend he lost two years earlier. Getting her will take more than even his super strength.

~Excerpt~

The spring scent of cherry blossoms wafted into the car, coloring the air to memories of the past. They'd made love under the cherry trees a few times. Not nearly often enough, but on stray occasions they'd made the time.

There was so much Myles should share with Dinah, update her on, but breathing her in took over too much brain space to focus. He'd missed her.

The day two passenger trains collided at Silver City Junction, stealing the lives of dozens and injuring many more, Myles lost his best friend. Not to death, but to doubt, which also acted much like death in superheroes.

His second chance had come and he wouldn't waste it. He turned down the gated road toward the Justice Fraternity lair.

"Wow, the place looks great. This area always looks amazing in the spring. I can't wait to see Esmerelde and Sparrow. I'm sure I'll get along fine with the others as well. I'll pay my dues and be back where I belong."

The determination and excitement in her voice were what his weary heart needed to hear. When he'd fought beside Dinah-Go, he'd had extra incentive to do his best, to be the best. He wanted that feeling back. For the most part, mankind did deserve saving, but like Dinah, he'd been running into the scum of the earth lately, and it made putting on his tights a chore.

Dinah reached over the center console of the car and pushed the discrete button near the steering wheel. She turned to him and grinned. "You always did have the best toys."

Instead of the garage door going up, the driveway began tilting down into an underground location. He barely slowed as he headed down, taking the curves deep into the earth as he had a thousand times before. Dinah's breathing increased, the excitement in the situation a little like the way she approached climax. She'd once told him speed and danger made her giddy. He'd bet she hadn't felt the way she did at the moment in much too long.

The dark cavern had all the stereotypes of a secret lair—dim lighting, lots of mechanical additions, booby traps. Myles swerved left at the end of the drive, avoiding trick spikes. Dinah clapped her hands. "Yay, you still have them."

"Some things you don't get rid of."

She turned to him, the joy and happiness in her expression everything he wanted to see. He put the car in park and turned off the engine. Dinah looked ready to bound out and explore, but instead she stayed in the car and looked at him.

"What?" he asked.

She shrugged. "I'm glad to be home. Really glad."

She leaned across the center console and wrapped her arms around his shoulders, drawing him closer for a kiss. Her tongue dove immediately into his mouth, taking over the kiss with playful strength and power. She dragged her fingers through his hair, and though the space was cramped, Myles leaned back to pull her closer.

Her soft breasts pressed against his chest, igniting the lust that had simmered between them the entire ride. He ran his hand down her back, following her curves to her ass. She had the strongest legs and butt of any woman he'd ever met, but the fleshy softness remained. He squeezed her butt, and she giggled into his mouth.

A tapping on the window made both of them freeze. Dinah opened her eyes and looked at him, pupils wide, red already glowing on her cheeks. Myles looked over his shoulder and groaned when Crypto Man's twisted grin came into view.

"Damn it," Myles said and settled Dinah in her seat. "Sometimes sidekicks are way overrated."

"Close your eyes. I'm going to walk you behind the folding wall and place you in front of the mirror. Keep your eyes closed."

Jen grinned.

"Are your eyes closed?"

She laughed softly but did as Barb asked of her. Every dress this talented seamstress designed for her was always shown off in the same way. "Yes."

A moment later a soft hand encircled the top of her left arm while another hand landed lightly against her back. She allowed her friend to press her toward the small cramped area opposite her office desk and chair. A frozen touch slowly replaced the warmth of her friend's hand, and a hint of flowery perfume replaced the scent of her friend's earthier one. Honeysuckle flowed into the air around her a second later, a breeze of chilled wind moving past her skin into her interior being, making her dizzy with the aching familiarity of it. As she moved through the scent, closer to the old-fashioned Chinese wall, a strange iciness settled deep in her bones, freezing her feet to the floor.

She'd felt this profound, unnatural chill a few times before.

"Jen, don't stop now."

The strangeness deepened in her, and she brought her arms up to wrap them tightly around her upper body. "I'm freezing."

"It's not cold in…" Barb's hand dropped from her back but not from her arm. "Oh, it's that kind of cold."

"My little saloon girl is visiting with me again."

"So you're finally admitting she's a saloon girl?"

Barb's words seemed to come from a great distance as the cold around Jen intensified.

"I've been telling you that for weeks," Barb added. "What changed your mind?"

"She's a ghost that haunts a saloon."

"Yeah," Barb said. "You've always known that, but it never convinced you before."

Icy tentacles suddenly wrapped around Jen, like a frozen pair of snow-hardened gloves, before an eerie voice whispered, "He's coming."

"What?" Opening her eyes at the barely heard sound, Jen stared at her puzzled friend. "Did you just say something?"

"Are you all right?"

"Tell me you just said something under your breath."

"Sorry, Jen," Barb said lightly. "What's going on?"

The prickly eeriness left her system as quickly as it'd entered, bringing blessed feeling back into her freezing, stilled body. The hint of honeysuckle perfume lingered for only a few seconds before dissipating in the October Montana air.

"Jen?"

"Please tell me you heard a woman's voice just now."

"Are you telling me she actually talked to you?" Disbelief registered clear in Barb's wide, dark eyes. "All mine ever does is mess with my stuff."

"I've never heard her speak before." Jen frowned. "Maybe it was my imagination."

"So what did your imagination say to you?"

"He's coming."

Content Warning: sexy alpha vampire, explicit sex, violence

"Frails are not to be toyed with," Gawain ground out and grabbed the girl, spinning her away, his sword at the ready as the man heaved upward, a dagger clutched in his hand. Gawain's sword rested easy on his palm, ready, the surface slicked with blood as he faced the coward.

"She's mine to do with as I choose." He gurgled, collapsing to the ground, his weapon falling from pudgy fingers. "Paid ten pieces of gold for 'em both, and I aim to get a might of use out 'em."

"Now she's mine," Gawain declared. Raising his sword, he drove it through the man's chest, pinning his twitching frame to the ground. He stepped back, his gaze sweeping the clearing. Males such as this did not travel alone, his cohorts would be close. He'd need to find and kill them…

Searing pain lanced through him, splitting his chest. Gawain glanced down. The thin, sharp tip of a blade stuck from his chest. He touched the blade and snarled. The metal was warm, when it should have been cold. Shock slammed into him as the blade began to glow, turning a searing red before changing back to normal, or as normal as it could be with blood racing down the weapon.

Whirling, his hand already scrabbling for the dagger's hilt in his back, he grabbed his assailant by the throat and lifted. Grunting as he pulled the weapon free, his lips curled upward. "You'd do well, wench, to know your place."

"If you think I mean to let you do her harm…" Sputtering, her nails digging into his wrists, the girl's brown eyes stared into his. Fear lay within the depths but something else stirred. Something dark, dangerous, easily recognized if one knew what they were looking for.

His fingers moved, tightening, loosening as he pulled her against him. Inhaling, he caught the faint scent of blood, fear, sweat, fire, and something sultry, sweet, and light on his tongue. Drawing the scent deep, he wallowed in it, his body responding to the aroma he'd dreamed of but never found.

Gawain inhaled slowly, his muscles tightening, burning. Using the tip of her dagger, he pushed the material of her shift aside. The scrolling marks of a serpent flared before his eyes. It coiled and danced beneath the girl's flesh.

Project Terminal: Legacy by Olivia Starke

Genre(s): Erotic Paranormal Romance

Zombies and super soldiers? Laura is the one hope for a world gone Hollywood crazy.

She has no choice but to follow Damian into his underworld of manipulated viruses and genetically altered super soldiers. Even as her life hangs in the balance, she can't deny the attraction she feels for the incredibly sexy and thoroughly imposing Infantryman.

Damian Gonsalves believes he has a cure for the virus changing innocent people into bloodthirsty undead. Within Laura is the key to stopping the horrific plague. All he has to do is keep her alive and safe, and stay one step ahead of those pursuing them. Her stubbornness frustrates him to no end, while her body drives him to distraction.

When they discover the secret behind Project Terminal, will they survive long enough to help stop the unleashed horror? Or will they just be two more victims of a virus threatening all of humanity?

Content Warning: graphic sex, strong language, and violence

~Excerpt~

Damian glanced around the sparsely furnished room. Other than a few flies and mosquitoes buzzing around them they were alone.

He closed his eyes, the weight of guilt pressing down making it difficult to speak. "We're alone, Laura. Nobody else is in here."

The night wore on, and fits of anger mingled with her confusion. Several times he'd had to prevent her from dashing out the door. He paced the confines of the living room, waiting for the last of the madness to run its course. Laura lay on the floor, lashing out toward some unseen attacker, before her breathing became rapid, labored pants. White foam bubbled from her mouth.

He pinched the bridge of his nose, turning away. He'd become disillusioned with the system he'd given his life to shortly after discovering they'd screwed up royally in creating the virus. In a lab he'd watched a man succumb to it, changing into a soulless corpse. It'd been horrific the first time he'd witnessed it. Afterward Headquarters had assigned him to track down an infected woman outside of the facility. It was his duty as a super soldier to clean up their mistakes. Now he wanted nothing more than to see the lab destroyed, something he should've done in the first place. He should've listened to Doug and Max, two of the doctors from the early days of the project. Their warnings had come to pass, but he'd been a stubborn, misinformed jackass.

Curled in the fetal position, Laura looked like a sick child, fragile and broken. His throat constricted, even though it was ridiculous to have feelings for someone you didn't know. He was military, Army Infantry, for Christ's sake, he knew how to pull a trigger without regret.

Laura rolled onto her back, staring toward the ceiling with glassy eyes. Despite the tremulous hold she had on life, she was already dead.

He existed as a government killing machine—an automaton they'd designed. Nothing more. He'd given his humanity away to the project. He wasn't much better than the corpses he hunted.

"I'm so sorry this happened to you, baby. You were right, I deserved this, not you."

His vision blurred when he stared down the barrel, the silencer aimed squarely between her eyes, his heart beating a crazed rhythm in his chest. His finger squeezed ever so slightly on the trigger. Outside a mourning dove called to its mate, a haunting song echoing in the room. He recalled a story from his youth about how a dove would arrive to carry a person's soul to the afterlife. If he believed in anything but the here and now, in that moment he would've thought it true.

Laura's mouth gaped open, strangled noises escaping her throat, seizures taking her into death throes.

He lowered his arm and thumped the butt of his gun against his thigh, waiting for the monster to appear. When she became the undead, when she moved to attack him, he'd have the power to destroy her. She deserved one last try to get the best of him. Maybe it wasn't Laura anymore, but he'd honor the fighting spirit within her. She'd never get past him, but if she took a piece of him in the process he'd have an excuse to end the whole goddamned thing here, in this stinking house. If he ever got infected his duty would be to put a bullet in his own head.

Laura's body stilled, her eyelids drifting closed.

Any moment…

Her eyes popped wide open, her back arching. She sucked in a breath as if surfacing from deep waters. He turned his body sideways, leveling his gun in dead aim, waiting for the corpse to lunge.

"Damian?"

War's End by Imogene Nix

Genre(s): Science Fiction/Futuristic Romance

Forced apart by war five years ago, Renjiro and Selina have another chance at love. Can they make it work or does fate have other plans?

Without the citizenship of the Federation, Indy pilot Selina Codecko is treated like a second-class citizen. When she gets caught up in a bar brawl she's arrested and finds herself in the hands of the Justice Officers.

Renjiro Ito has dreamed of Selina for five long years. As the Commander of the Justice Officers, the plight of this one woman will turn his life upside down.

But there's more going on than just the fate of one woman—there's a seething underbelly that wants to destroy their newly expanded Federation. The chances of a future together are slim, but they'll take any chances that come their way. Will it be enough?

~Excerpt~

"Sit down." Renjiro's terse words filled Selina with pain and sadness.

She acceded to his request in silence, holding her throbbing hand against her breast. He squatted before her, his face close to hers, his dark eyes shadowed. His touch was gentle as his fingers traced the line of her jaw. They shook a little and she felt the glancing caress. It warmed her.

He touched a raw spot on her chin and she hissed involuntarily.

"Where else are you injured?"

Selina shook her head.

"Captain Codecko? Selina?"

His gentle words nearly undid her. Tears burned in her eyes and she blinked, hoping to banish them. It didn't work though. They dripped down her face, scalding her frozen cheeks.

Now his hands dropped to her shoulders. "Where else are you hurt, Selina?" His gaze was hypnotic. It drew her words without thought.

"My hand, ribs, and the top of my head."

He frowned and started tugging at her shirt, pulling it free of the loose-fitting pants.

"What… What are you doing?"

He glanced at her, his face taut and strained. "I'm checking your injuries."

Selina blushed, the heat creeping over her face as she pushed at his hands. "No! You can't do that!"

"Just bloody watch me." His rough words surprised her and her hands dropped away. He continued his almost feverish work at her buttons and very quickly he had the shirt open. Selina thanked whatever had made her fasten a bra over her very tiny breasts. With gentle movements, he brushed the old material of her shirt to one side. He hissed through clenched teeth at what he saw. "You need a medic."

"I'm fine. I've lived through this before. Of greater concern to me is whether I'm going to be charged for causing the riot. I was just—"

"I know. Having a quiet drink. We checked the spy eyes. You will be free to go, so long as we can put together a suitable argument. But I have a proposition. One that would help you, I think."

In her experience, propositions never ended well, but she was desperate enough to listen to what he had to say. So she watched in mute silence as he rose. He backed away as she quickly refastened her shirt. Then he paced to the end of the room and back.

"I've just received a communiqué that there's some Indies about to plan an attack on this moon base. I need people I can trust to get information for me."

She waited. But as he started pacing again, it seemed she would need to ask the question. "What's in it for me?"

He stilled.

Selina held her breath. Waiting.

"I might be able to swing an official citizenship for you."

Just like that, he could brush away all the difficulties she had faced since the end of the war. But trusting people didn't come easily. Not for her. "You can just click your fingers and make that happen?"

He faced her again. His eyes shone almost feverishly bright under the lighting of the room. "No. But I know someone who might be able to make it happen, if you agree."

"Why? Why would you help me?"

He smiled. "Because I owe you."

Reckless Attraction by Ambrielle Kirk

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Every sin has a price…

My estranged husband, Rich, is a habitual cheater. He says he has a problem with commitment because he’s messed up in the head. I’ve called him on it more than once. No one likes a liar, no matter how handsome he is. He says he wants me to have casual sex with another man to even the score. I don’t need his free pass. I can do bad by myself. I already have…I spend my days working at the diner and my nights in an adult chatroom with a sexy stranger, keeping my body at a distance and my heart safe.

Rich’s biggest mistake didn’t occur when he stepped out on me. His undoing was inviting Trevor Stanley into our bed. Trevor is cocky, arrogant, and holds nothing back, but when he looks at me I’m drawn to him like light is to dark. Pending my divorce, Trevor seems to think I’m fair game and leaves more than his sex-laced advances on the table. He’s way too tempting and doesn’t seem to think it matters that my soon to be ex-husband is his boss.

All I really want is a no-strings-attached fling. My ticket arrives when I receive an anonymous invite to the Hotel Beaudelaire’s exclusive Den of Sin Winter Ball.

~Excerpt~

I frowned. “That’s because I told him to. I’m going to move forward whether you like it or not. I don’t want this marriage and neither do you.”

“Camille, that doesn’t mean that I don’t want you period,” he stated.

I passed Rich on the steps, leaving him standing there. It didn’t take long for him to venture behind me down the driveway to my car. His shiny white Jaguar was parked conveniently behind mine, so I needed to say something to get him off my back.

“I feel like I’m being harassed by you, Rich. Do you extend this type of treatment to the other women in your life?”

I unlocked the door using the key fob and before I could touch the handle, Rich had already opened it for me.

“No, I don’t,” he said in almost a whisper. “But I know you won’t believe me.”

The nerve of him. What made him think that I would fall for that lie when for months he’d been going behind my back fulfilling his lusty desires with women like he was enjoying an endless supply of skittles?

“You’re right. I won’t.” I tossed my bags in the passenger seat and slipped in the driver’s side. “Now what you can believe is that I will lose my job if I’m late. I’m sure you don’t care about wasting time, but I bet you care about that pretty piece of metal blocking my way.”

I glanced in my rearview mirror at his Jag, started my car, and revved the motor.

“I’m sorry about everything, Camille.” His hand was on the inside handle of the car door. “I wish you could understand. Venture on my side of the fence for a moment. I got caught up. I had my…condition under control and slipped one time and messed everything up.”

I caught his wandering gaze and held it. “And when you say venture on your side…?”

“I think you should…” He visibly swallowed. “I want you to sleep with someone else. Maybe you’ll understand when I tell you there’s a difference between the casual sex I shared with women but had no intentions of ever seeing again and the sex that we had in our marriage bed.”

I shook my head and held up my hand to stop the bullshit pouring from his mouth. “I can’t with you right now. Not today. Not ever.” Irritation ran through my heated veins. “Two wrongs don’t make a right and it’s not about what you want. Haven’t you gotten that through your brain yet?”

As I looked into his sea-blue eyes, seeing them swirling with confusion and regret, it dawned on me that he was still self-conceited in his ways. Was the free pass that he so blindly offered for my benefit or for his? What was he really trying to prove?

His gaze narrowed on me. “I never want you to think that you aren’t good enough because you are. You were a good girl when I met you, Camille. I messed that up for you. And I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to control myself. When you have some time, think about it, okay?”

Genre(s): Erotic Paranormal Romance

Faith's life has always balanced in two worlds—the normal human world and the supernatural. Now she has to choose between the two.

Faith York is human, but she has psychic powers, which is a little odd since neither of her parents have paranormal abilities. Thankfully, the werewolf family who lived around the corner help her learn to control her powers. She instantly fell in love with the entire family, but especially Kane, the oldest son who is next in line to be Alpha. Unfortunately, Kane doesn't see Faith the same way she sees him. Heartbroken, she leaves town.

When Faith returns from two years overseas, her parents throw her a welcome home party. Faith is shocked when Kane kidnaps her from the party and mate marks her. Now she struggles with the choice of whether to leave again and live a normal life—a life she yearns for—or stay with the man she's always dreamed of and live a supernatural life.

To complicate matters further, her psychic powers intensify and she begins to have visions of an upcoming demon Armageddon. Then she learns she was switched at birth, and she has a half-brother…who is half demon.

Faith must be stronger than she ever believed possible, and maybe in the process, she can trust herself to give Kane another chance.

Content Warning: Sexy werewolf alpha, graphic sex, strong language, and violence

~Excerpt~

It's so nice to be home, Faith thought. Her parents were throwing her a welcome home party, and she couldn't wait to see her second family. She had missed Jamie and his family so much. Faith's parents had picked her up from the airport yesterday, and she'd spent a relaxing afternoon with them. But tonight she hoped everyone she loved would be there, bar one. She couldn't see him, not yet, she needed time to settle, build up her walls against him. Faith shook her head and finished getting ready for her party.

Two hours later, the party had started and Faith was chatting to all her friends, but she couldn't stay focused on the conversation around her, because she was eagerly awaiting some of the most important people in her life. Her werewolf family was late, and she was starting to get upset.

She had been away for two years with only phone contact with the Wolfens. She never missed speaking to at least one of them every night. They were the reason she had come home, and why she'd left in the first place. It's not that she wasn't grateful to them, especially as they'd helped her learn to control her psychic gifts, but they always seemed to take over and overprotect her. She sighed and gave herself a little shake, hoping it would get her back into the conversation around her.

When Faith finally felt her wolf family arrive, she smiled, excused herself from the friends she was talking to, and ran outside to greet them. Faith kissed all the werewolves, and when she reached Jamie she jumped on him, kissing his cheek. "I missed my best friend so much," Faith told him.

Jamie chuckled. "We talked almost every day."

"I missed your hugs, and I miss your stupid jokes, they don't have the same effect over the phone." Faith kissed both of his cheeks.

She looked up and saw Kane first before she felt him. He was special. Faith loved her werewolf family, but the love she had for Kane was different, more intense, sexual, a love she felt to the bottom of her soul. The problem was, he didn't want her.

Faith looked over Jamie's shoulder, trying for a casual, "Hi, Kane."

She turned her head back to Jamie before she did something stupid like jump on Kane and kiss him to show him how much she loved him and didn't want to live without him anymore.

Without thinking of the consequences, she kissed Jamie on the mouth, trying not to put all her regret and self-hatred at loving Kane into it. Jamie seemed startled at first, but then he grabbed her arse to hold her closer to him, and he really got into it.

Faith wished she loved Jamie the way she loved Kane. God, she wished she felt something from this kiss. Nothing…she felt nothing for Jamie beyond friendship.

She sighed in thanks when her mother called her inside as she had an overseas caller. Faith walked into the house, not

daring to look back at the group, knowing if she did she would have to acknowledge what was going on.

Confessions of a Sex Demon by Jaye Shields

Genre(s): Paranormal Romance

Zahra proves that sex demons do it better as she goes from captive to captivator.

Sex Demon Zahra Aniron is a closet romantic. Too bad she spends her time having hot, kinky sex with paying strangers. But she needs the money to pay off her sister's debt to wizard thugs. There could be worse things than getting paid for pleasure, especially since a sex demon needs climax to survive.

As a blacksmith, Lennox Aegros puts his fury to good use pounding steel into swords. When he arrives at a new town, his real cause for being there isn't to sell weaponry, it's for revenge. When he finds the succubus he's been searching for, her beauty means he can mix business with pleasure. But the joke's on Lennox, because as he succeeds in torturing his victim by repeatedly bringing her to the brink of orgasm and then denying her the release that she so desperately needs, he realizes that Zahra's slow demise means the breaking of a heart he didn't think he had.

Content Warning: strong language, graphic sex, light BDSM scenes

~Excerpt~

Zahra woke to a sharp pinch against her skin. She tried to peel open her eyelids, but they were heavy stones. She wanted to touch her eyes, but her arms moved nowhere. Fear caused her lids to fly open only to realize that she was indeed strapped down.

The perpetrator smiled, but it was subtle. Very subtle. His tan skin was darker in the dim room. His blue irises appeared so light that his eyes became demonic charcoals glaring at her in the shadowy room. He finished strapping her foot down.

"Do you like your accommodations, demon?"

"You should have asked Bane for help decorating. He's also very good at the dark, gloomy dungeon thing." She'd hoped to sound feisty, but instead, her voice was nothing more than a pitiful rasp.

"Since you're used to your mouth being filled, I'll help you." Lennox stood over her. She never took her eyes from his intense frown as he tied a scarf around her mouth. He pulled it tight enough to cut into the edges of her mouth. Zahra did her best to smash his fingers into the cold metal table she was strapped to. Unfortunately, the back of her head missed its mark and thunked hard against the steel.

At least she could still see what was taking place. Fear coursed through her. She barely knew this man and she couldn't imagine what he had in store for her. She was a succubus, used to kinky requests, and most men knew they didn't need to kidnap her for such a session. She watched Lennox's tall form cross the mostly empty room. The only furniture was a small table. Probably where he kept his—

Scissors. Lennox turned toward her with a pair in his hand. As he walked in her direction, he looked entirely too innocent to be foreboding. His blond hair was a stark contrast against his tan skin. She'd felt his muscles earlier and they were those of an intense lover, not a fighter. Clearly this guy was tweaked. He was hot as hell and normally she liked freaky guys. If he hadn't insulted her ever since they first met, they might've even had a chance. No charge.

Lennox stood between her legs and she could barely see him from her tight bondage against the table. The cold metal of the scissors slipped under her corset. As the fabric began falling away, the soft groan of the metal cutting through thick black fabric echoed in the empty room. Her tight top became looser with every passing second. Heat crept into her body. Good news: she had the feeling this guy could make her come. Hard. The bad news: she was kidnapped by a psychopath and no one knew where she was.

Maybe he's a trap-and-set-free kind of psychopath. Love 'em and leave 'em.

"Your body betrays you. You crave your abductor, don't you, succubus?"

She avoided his gaze by staring at the ceiling. Zahra could feel the heat from his intense appraisal of her body as he guided the shears across her pants. Apparently, he was leaving no clothes for her to try to escape in. It was becoming clearer by the moment that he had no plans for her to leave.

Taming the Hunted by Larisa Anderson

Genre(s): Erotic Paranormal Romance

Hunting just got hotter.

Marian is a hunter of night creatures. She stalks and stakes vampires, isn't afraid of the odd silver bullet if a werewolf turns rogue, and is perfectly content with her complete lack of social life.

When a staking goes wrong, a handsome, mesmerizing man comes to Marian's rescue. But Gabriel isn't what he seems to be. After Marian loses consciousness she awakes to find herself in a house filled with werewolves.

If she can survive the night she might discover that sometimes opposites attract in the best ways. Now if she could just silence that irritating little voice in the back of her mind that keeps reminding her that hunters are supposed to kill creatures of the night, not date them.

Content Warning: contains mature language and graphic sexual content

~Excerpt~

Gabriel's hand shot out as if to steady Marian, but instead dropped to trace the length of her arm. A trail of fire followed his contact. As he reached the tips of her fingers, he paused before letting his hand drop to his side. Her body slumped, wanting to follow that tantalizing hand back to its owner. One thing stopped her, her mind remained clear; he wasn't controlling her as he'd tried to do earlier. He must have felt secure with her in this building.

"Why did you bring me here, to what I assume is your house?" She had to find out more about this man and this place if she hoped to get home in one piece.

He nodded. "You passed out and since I don't know where you live, I thought it best to bring you here until you felt better."

He watched her as he lowered himself into a chair on one side of the room. Her gaze moved to the bulge in his slacks. A gust of air pushed from her lungs as she tried to clear her head.

"What?" she asked when he didn't appear to want to share his thoughts. Her hand slipped to the small of her back where she gripped the comforting flat hilt of her silver dagger.

"You're quite fascinating when you sleep."

He slid deeper in the chair, his lips parted as if he tasted her in the air, those large hands flexed over his taut stomach.

"You watched me! That's so…" Hot, sweet, sexy, weird. "Weird."

"Who is Lione?" he asked, not looking disturbed about invading her personal time.

"None of your business. And for the record, pal," she snapped, crossing the room and jabbing a finger in his chest. "No more watching me. My dreams are my business." She knew she talked in her sleep and shuddered at the thought of what he may have heard.

"So you intend on staying here again?" He grinned, showing a wide mouth full of almost sharp, white teeth, cased in broad lips.

Marian felt her face heat and took an unconscious step back. His eyes sparkled in the artificial light of the city and she noticed for the first time that they were yellow, not light brown, but yellow like a lion. She leaned toward him, coming within inches of his face. Realizing what she was doing, she shook herself. His hands were faster than her resolve. Before she could move away from him, he grasped her face, pausing for just a moment before pressing his lips hard against hers.

“What the hell?” Mom charges out of the utility room and into the kitchen with my jeans balled up in one hand. In the other hand is a small plastic bag. “What is this? Tell me it isn’t what I think it is!” She shakes it in my face.

“I don’t know! It’s not mine.”

“Then why did I find it in your pocket?”

“My—” Oh, hell no. “I can explain. There was a girl at the party last night—”

“Party? I thought you had a project to work on at the library. Now you’re doing drugs and lying?”

“No! I mean yes. Yes, I went to a party last night, but no, I’m not smoking pot. She must have shoved it in my pocket.”

“She was close enough that she had her hands in your front pocket?”

I open my mouth for a second then snap it shut. I’m screwed either way, so I decide on the lesser of two evils. “Yes, she had her hands in my pocket. I’m eighteen. I can’t stay your innocent little boy forever, Mom, but I promise you I’m not doing drugs.”

“Did you drink?” I feel my cheeks redden under her glare. “I see.”

“What’s going on?” My stomach lurches into my throat at the sound of Dad’s voice.

“Tell your father what you did, Pete.”

“Mom—” Shame, hot and sticky, crawls up my neck. Mom only knows the basics, and if she and Dad knew what really went down last night, they’d die, come back to life, tell me how disappointed in me they are, die again, and make me feel guilty for eternity for killing their vision of the perfect son…the one who doesn’t bang girls who sell pot and have sex with other girls.
